BEFORE YOU BUY

Brands advertise "new and improved" products as solutions to all of life's problems. In turn, this creates a consumer that believes they need new products to be satisfied. The reality is: buying new isn't always the best option.

Before you buy, we encourage you to take a moment to reflect and explore alternatives. The Shop Conscious Checklist below provides four simple questions that help us value what we already have and think outside the shopping cart for more sustainable ways to live.

Shop Conscious Checklist

Can I repair what I'm looking to replace?
Can I upcycle the old item and transform it into something else?
Have I been thrift shopping for what I'm looking for?
Will I donate what I'm replacing?

01/

Repair

Grab a needle and thread!
There are online tutorials to fix tears, sew on patches, and reattach zippers, buttons, and straps.
For more help, visit Sew Guide.

02/

Upcycle

a) Repurpose clothing to be worn differently. Example: turn a shirt into a crop top or bandana.
b) Use clothes for another helpful purpose. Example: cleaning rags, pet toys, quilts, tablecloths, bags.
For more ideas, visit Lifehack.

03/

Thrift

Circular fashion keeps clothes in use longer. To buy used clothes check out Goodwill, Salvation Army,
and your local thrift stores.
